FAQ for Salty Sea Dog Designs

All of our dishware items are microwave and dishwasher safe! We do not recommend that our items be placed in the freezer, oven or left outside below -15C

All Salty Sea Dog Designs pottery is handcrafted one at a time. We do not use molds to mass produce our pottery. Each piece is first thrown on the potters wheel and then the details are hand sculpted. Every piece will be slightly unique and have their own personalities.

We do not take on any custom requests. Our studio is too busy to accommodate any custom designs. We have a long list of ideas that we would love to create one day. Hopefully we will create your favourite creature in the future

Salty Sea Dog Designs is a true collaboration between Blair and Sarah Dawes. Each piece of pottery takes both partners to create. Sarah throws all of the forms on the potters wheel and Blair hand sculpts all the details. Often times, Sarah hand paints all of the creations, but Blair has been known to help out when he’s needed. Illustrations are the work of Blair, but Sarah does give constructive feedback to shape those as well.

Salty Sea Dog Designs is a two person team and all of our ceramic creations take a very long time to complete. We try to stay on top of our production process and keep most of our pieces stocked as frequently as possible. However, it may take up to a month to have an item completed and restocked in our shop. Certain items, like tikis and monsters, are only created four times a year. Sign up for our newsletter and follow us on social media to find out when they will be available 

We have a firm no holds or pre pay policy. This is the best way we can be fair to everyone when it comes to these highly sought after designs

We ship every Monday morning unless it is a statutory holiday. If this is the case, we will ship on the next available business day. If you have your order placed before 5pm MST on the Sunday we will have it in that weeks shipments

Salty Sea Dog Designs is happy to return or exchange any regularly stocked item within two weeks of delivery. This will give you time to use your new piece of pottery, discover any handmade quirks or flaws that may bother you. We request that the original item is returned to us in the original condition before any refund or exchange is completed. We are not responsible for any damages sustained in transport during the return trip

Salty Sea Dog Designs is a two person team and in order to stay creative and in love with a very challenging medium we do discontinue designs in order to bring out new creations. We periodically bring back an old design as a limited run. Sign up for our newsletter and follow us on social media to know when these limited runs are available

All of Salty Sea Dog Designs pieces are functional sculptures that can take up to a month to complete. Our prices vary depending on style, materials and the length of time it takes to create. We also include shipping in Canada and the US in every price so you won’t be surprised once you hit checkout. You can see all of our pricing in our listings once an item is for sale.

All of our pricing includes shipping to Canada and the USA. If you are in a different location shoot us a message and we can give you a quote for shipping to your destination

Add more peace of mind to your Salty Sea Dog Designs order! Our team works closely with Canada Post (and others internationally) to ensure your packages arrive perfectly to you. Package Protection ensures that if your package is lost in the mail or damaged that it will be replaced at no charge to you.

With package protection, if your order arrives damaged please email us with your order number and photos of the item/s that have been affected. We will replace the damaged items at no cost to you. Damage protection does not extend past our two week return policy.


If you have not received your package, but it is marked as "delivered" or "lost":

With Package Protection:
Please wait three days (there is oftentimes a delay) and then contact us with your order number and the details of your package. Your order will be replaced at no cost to you.

Without Package Protection:
Please wait three days (there is oftentimes a delay) and then please contact the carrier directly. Any non protected package can be replaced at a cost to you.
